A team including zookeepers from Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World have announced their intentions to complete the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’, to raise vital funds for Pepper’s Pet Rescue. The ambitious team completing the challenge in April includes Malcolm Dawes, Lee Trumper, Toby Hayward, George Hayward, Marcus Allen, James Wilkins, and the zoo’s owner, Will Dorrell.
The Three Peaks Challenge, known for its rigorous demands, involves scaling the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within only 24 hours.
The team are raising funds for Pepper’s Pet Rescue, a rescue facility renowned for providing essential care and shelter for abandoned and neglected animals across the region. The Hoo Zoo team hope to draw attention to the importance of animal welfare and inspire others to pledge to support those caring for the West Midland’s abandoned and unwanted pets.
“The team have been preparing for months, balancing their daily duties with intensive training, everyone seems incredibly excited at this stage, albeit a little daunted. Everyone at the zoo puts in a shift every day, with the work of a zoo keeper being extremely physical work,” said Hoo Zoo Owner, Will Dorrell.
“Completing the Three Peaks Challenge for Pepper’s Pet Rescue demonstrates our commitment to animal welfare and our dedication to supporting worthy causes in Shropshire and the West Midlands area. The funds raised will support a really worthy cause and directly impact the lives of many domestic animals in need, ensuring they receive the care they both need.”
Hoo Zoo have been providing ongoing support to Pepper’s Pet Rescue for a number of years. They have adopted several cats from the rescue as well as some Giant African Land Snails. The rescue centre is currently facing mounting veterinary bills, and are actively seeking to funds to either purchase or rent a new facility.
Pepper’s Pet Rescue founder, Sophie Pepper said; “Demand for our services majorly outweighs resources and we have to turn away so many animals that desperately need our help every single day. It’s heartbreaking. Any funds are massively appreciated to help us reach our goals. We are completely blown away by Hoo Zoo’s offer of doing the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for us.”
Contributions can be made through the dedicated Just Giving page set up for the challenge, with the zoo team hoping to raise £1,500 for the charity.
