Hoo Zoo & Dinosaur World in Telford are hoping to put their visitor’s focus on wolf conservation during their upcoming Wolf Awareness Weekend, a special event dedicated to celebrating and educating visitors about the importance of wolves in their native ecosystems.
Wolf Weekend is taking place at the Shropshire attraction on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July. The event provides visitors with an educational experience with guest speaker, Caroline Elliott, Founder of Wolf Aware and Director of the Anglian Wolf Society, who will share her unique experiences with wolves and give insight into wolf behaviour, biology, and conservation.
The Wolf Awareness Weekend will focus on the conservation of wolves, highlighting their historical extinction in certain regions including the United Kingdom and the ongoing efforts to protect and conserve them. Visitors will learn about wolf pack dynamics, hunting strategies, and the challenges wolves face in the wild.
This event offers a rare chance to see up close, Arctic Wolves and Eurasian Wolf Hybrids who were Britain’s last top predators to become extinct. For one weekend only, guests will also be able to get closer than ever and feed the zoo’s three wolves.
The proceeds from the event will go to the Balkani Wolf Conservation in Bulgaria, supporting vital conservation efforts. Wolves in Bulgaria are under persecution from local hunters, therefore money raised from the wolf awareness weekend will support the protection of their habitat and long term conservation of the population.
“We are thrilled to host the Wolf Awareness Weekend at Hoo Zoo,” said Will Dorrell, owner of Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World.
“We are very proud of our ongoing conservation efforts for our wolves, and can’t wait to educate visitors about our efforts to protect and conserve this wonderful species. We are very excited to be joined by Caroline Elliott for our event and are thrilled to raise vital funds for the Balkani Wolf Conservation project. Wolves went extinct in the UK in the 1500s, but there are still populations throughout Europe and it is vital that we do what we can to safeguard their existence.”
